Glamping Isle of Mull Scotland
Shielings offer glamping on The Isle of Mull Scotland with 16 unique carpeted cottage tents, in 3 glorious acres by the sea, with a great view of Ben Nevis. Of the 16, 13 are self-contained self-catering units, 8 ensuite. Another 3 are halved for budget bedrooms. We ‘re blessed in a beautiful site, handy for ferry, buses and all facilities. You can save money by coming on foot, especially for short breaks.
David Gracie has made and used Shielings on Mull for 32 years, long before glamping. Big, airy, dry, fireproof, bright and very strong. You’ve the comfort of a cottage, at one with nature, listening to sea and birds. Shielings were summer cottages of Highland shepherds tending flocks by mountain and shore. A happy time, long carefree island days. Last year 137 customers reviewed the Shielings. Most thought them a simple, good idea; spacious, bright, and clean; a balance of camping and luxury, with comfortable beds and excellent value for money. Campers liked not pitching and packing tents in wet weather. Many came on foot or bike, saving the ferry cost of car or caravan. But Shielings are not insulated, so bring plenty of warm clothes to avoid being cold if there’s a gale.
Shieling Holidays is quiet, peaceful and very beautiful and family run, with a warm welcome with super facilities and spotlessly clean!
The 4 Ensuites sleeping up to 6 are 10 x 5 metres (33 x 16 ft). They are in the front row and coloured blue on http://www.shielingholidays.co.uk/SitePlan.html.
The 4 Ensuites sleeping up to 4 are 7.5 x 5 metres (24 x 16 ft). They are on the ridge, with the same stunning views.
The 5 Standard Shielings sleep up to 6 and are 7.5 x 5 metres (24 x 16 ft) on the ridge, with the same stunning views. They are within easy reach of the facilities, which we keep spotless.
Backpackers, cyclists and others on a budget don’t always want to pitch their own tents, especially for a single night or in stormy weather. So we halved some Shielings to make a Budget Bedroom at each end, each with its own door and twin beds (join them for a double if you like). You either cook in your bedroom, or in the Shieling Common Room. You can hire bedding and cooking and eating gear for £4 pp pn.

THE SHIELING DRYER
One winter David had to mend a timber lifeboat from a Clyde Puffer. He had to dry the timbers first. How, in winter in Mull? Answer: the Shieling Dryer – www.ShielingDryer.co.uk. Wind passing the open ends makes a through draft. It has dried clothes ever since. Save money, save the planet. Hang it, forget it, just drying in the rain. For free. You can see that David Bellamy likes the smaller Family Dryer.
