Glamping in South Wales

Jon and Sarah at Cwm Ty Coed offer glamping holidays to suit families, couples and groups both large and small.  Pitches are secluded from each other within a large, pretty meadow surrounded by woodland although the bell tent and tipis can easily be pitched together, around a large outdoor fire pit, for family parties or groups of friends.

Jon has many years experience of tipi living and knows just how to make these wonderful dwellings warm and comfortable.  As an experienced forester he maintains the land and has creatively built the structures which provide such workable facilities for guests. Sarah teaches art and crafts and has an eye for the detail which provides those finishing touches to the interiors that make all the difference.

Jon and Sarah really want people to enjoy the experience of ‘back to nature camping’ … but in comfort.

Gardens and castles, beaches and forests, Cwm Ty Coed is a wonderful centre for your holiday. Cwm Ty Coed is set on a 30 acre smallholding in the rolling countryside of West Wales situated only three miles from the county town of Carmarthen. Once on site it is hard to imagine the proximity to such a bustling market town with its many restaurants, cafés and shops, and of course those flourishing markets for local produce. The nearest coast is only five miles away and the fantastic Pembrey Country Park, with miles of sandy beach can be reached in fifteen minutes by car. To the east, the coast of the Gower is not far away and the many beaches of Pembrokeshire are an equal distance to the west. There is the newly completed and award winning Millennium Coastal Path.  Discounted cycle hire can be arranged.  The glamping site is well situated for many of the attractions of West Wales!

Situated in the Meadow the Bell Tents and Tipis sleep up to 5 people, however, guests may also bring one small tent of their own per booking, for a small nightly charge. This can be useful for storage or to accommodate older children.

These traditional canvas tents, with lovely wooden fittings, are tastefully decorated and comfortably sleep up to five people. The tents include:

  • Wood burning stove
  • Awning to keep the entrance dry
  • Wooden floors covered with rugs
  • Central wooden pole with hanging lanterns
  • Blanket boxes for storage
  • Solar lights twinkle around the edge of the tent creating a lovely ambience
  • Double futon with duvets and blankets and two single futons
  • An additional air bed can be provided if required, suitable for a child
  • All bedding is provided
  • Your own camp kitchen (see further details below)
  • BBQ and outside picnic table

These traditional structures are particularly airy and atmospheric, the added height providing a real feeling of space. The tipis are decorated with a taste of luxury including:

  • Natural floors covered with sheepskins and rugs
  • Welsh blankets
  • Lanterns and solar lighting to create a magical Celtic atmosphere
  • Fire dish, situated in the centre of the tipi, provides ambience and warmth
  • Double futon with duvets and blankets and two single futons
  • An additional air bed can be provided if required, suitable for a child
  • All bedding is provided
  • Your own camp kitchen (see further details below)
  • BBQ and outside picnic table

We have plenty to do and lots of space to relax too!

Each dwelling has a private, well equipped camp kitchen which includes a cool box and a cast iron, gas burner. The camp kitchens are covered, have a woodchip floor as well as a simple table and seating which enable our guests to enjoy meals under cover should the weather be wet.

Each pitch has an outside fire pit for those lovely evenings under the stars. There is barbecue for each tent. Each pitch has its own picnic table.

Behind this paddock there is a wooden cabin nestled amongst the trees which provides a comfortable space in which to relax should the weather be inclement.  It is well supplied with books and board games, cosy sofas, log burning stove and small kitchen area.

Hammocks swing between trees nearby

There are gas powered showers in the camping fields and we have compost toilets. We know that the quality of these facilities is very important to our guests and these are clean and attractively decorated. We are available on arrival to talk our guests through the simple instructions. Natural, filtered spring water is piped to the camping field.

Set some way from the camping field there is a pretty paddock with a large, communal barbecue and fire pit. Occasionally, on request, we can arrange an outdoor ‘cinema’ in the woods for a truly memorable evening.

There are acres of meadow and woodland at Cwm Ty Coed to be explored and dotted about the woods are various tree swings, there is even a zip wire (suitable for adults and children over 8 years old).

Jon and Sarah are keen cooks and gardeners so it is possible to buy home produced vegetables, fruit, jam and chutney as well as home-made ice cream and cakes on site. The smallholding is home to a very small flock of rare breed Balwen sheep who are native to the Tywi Valley and whose small size allows them to perform their lawn mowing duties perfectly amongst the tents and tipis.

Ecological cleaning products are always supplied for our guests. There is a recycling area on site and we encourage all possible waste to be composted. We use solar energy for most of the on-site lighting although there is mains electricity to the wooden cabin. We encourage camp fires in the designated fire pits.

Tents can easily be pitched together, around a large outdoor fire pit, for family parties/ groups of friends.  We also have a large traditional, canvas marquee which can be hired and is an ideal covered area for events.
